Is this like Rate My Rack, without the bewbs?

I'd double the memory to 1 GB, ditch the CRT, and get rid of the POS Sony drive. I'm not a big fan of Gigabyte, but that's only personal preference....the other things are more common agreements.

No, lcd is bad, crt is good, esp for me, i have not that big of budget and i like crt's much better for gaming, it is a clearer picture, ya know, not all mashed together, umm, that mobo is awesome, i was playing around on my friends and it was awesome how you can mess with the bios in windows, and i do have a gig of ram, that is wat the (2) is for, i have two of the 512's

i've never had a problem with the sony drives before so im just going to stick with it, they are usually nice

I agree about the crt's. They are much better in my opinion if you have the space. A lot clearer picture. Plus a lot cheaper.

First, if your interested in playing with the BIOS, and probably overclocking, you'd be foolish not to get an Abit. Second, are you seriously going to sit there and spout the marketing crap about LCDs not being good for gaming and not being as clear? Are you serious? That was valid maybe 12 to 18 months ago. Seriously do some research on your own. Why do you think the high end (non Plasma) TV monitors are LCD? Third, Sony drives have their ass handed to them in speed and compatibility tests. LiteOn makes a much better drive that's the same or cheaper.

Just because he doesnt buy an abit, doesnt mean his board is shit. I am nwe to p4 and I didnt buy the best stuff because you DONT have to have the best to achieve speeds like everyone else. I have a albatron board and I hit 3.2 right off the bat.

And LCD, yes they are good but not everyone has 600-850$ to spend on a *good* lcd. Anyone can buy a 450 19'' LCD but it would be shit for gaming. Id take a 21'' CRT over a 19'' LCD. Reason, because I can get a WHOLE lot more quality and performance with a 350$ CRT than I could with a LCD.

350 would get me a nice CRT, 350 would get me what a HP lcd?

carry on

Well actually I bought my Dell 1800FP which 18.1" brand new for $375. And I'll respond to the HP comment against my better judgement. I have a 15" HP LCD at home as my second monitor, and it's amazing. I also have a 20" HP LCD at work, and it has beautifully handled every game I've thrown at it. Ours are a bit expensive, but they are damn nice. Thanks for the ignorant comment though.

dude, I love that motherboard (GIGABYTE 875P model GA-8IK1100) , did you get the new revision that has the 4 pin power connector built in above the agp slot for new graphic cards that use more power? Cause I've used that board twice the first one (older revision) didnt have it, but the newer one did.

A newegg review of the Sony 16x DVD-ROM drive indicated that it was a rebadged Lite-On. So some Sony drives are probably made by other OEM's.

And a review for the 48x24x48x16 combo drive indicates that it is relatively short dimension wise, so it could very well be a rebadged Lite-On combo drive. I have the Lite-On version, a bit noisy and somewhat flimsy tray but performs great.

Just get whichever is cheaper, the Sony or Lite-On combo drive, since they're probably the same.

#2 how much you paying for that processor? (yesterday i was looking at pricegrabber.com, i was looking at a 3.2ghz price is very good now)

#3 everybody right. longhorn is going to need 1gb at least!

#6 why not get a dvd burner?

why no dvd burner, don't need it right now, i work at best buy and i'll buy them with my discount down the road when i ABSOLUTLY need one, plus im under a budget right now, i ddin't want to spend over 1600(which i did) and right now i don't need one so i didn't do it, i'll get a plextor down the road, trust me i'll be getting one soon enough... lol

and just to set the record straight, I AM GETTING 1 GB OF MUSHKIN, if you look it says (2)Mushkin etc... that means i got two of them, just for future referance

Looks like a great pute, post some benchmarks, and overclock that mofo.

The only thing I would have considered doing different would be some kind of raid setup on the hard drives, or at least a SATA drive. Oh yea, I'm also an AMD bigot because of the price/performance ratio thing.

Other than that, sounds great. Wish I had that kind of cash to spend on a new computer. But had to settle on a week long cruise in the Caribean this March instead. Decisions, decisions. Of course the little lady made that decision for me. It's her birthday.

Good luck

Don

I give it a 7/10 based on how much you spent and what I would have gotten with the same $$$ amount.

Longhorn won't be out until 2005 at the earliest.

thanks guys, stay tuned for bench marks and overclocked speeds!! i'll talk to you all later

If I *had* the money, I would get an Athlon64 rig. However, your call is the P43.0c, and if you like it, then by all means go for it. The system looks pretty nice overall. Out of curiosity, did you include an OS? Also, you should keep an eye out for the Intel Retailedge deals, working at Best Buy and all.

yea, i know about that, thats where i got my os, through microsoft, XP pro, but intel doesn't have much to offer but like some main boards and stuff which arn't that great, but microsoft is spectacular with their retail stuff, i love it!

Im just excited about my gig of mushkin, its goign to be intense, its almost here guys, its on the fedex truck being delivered to my house as we speak, im super pumped!

it came, now i just need to get home from school and build it... YES... then i will have my bench marks for you all!

The best LCDs are 16ms pixel reponse time, the norm for all CRTs is less than 1ms....

I like the way games feel on CRTs rather than LCDs. They just feel smoother and more responsive.

I dont believe CRTs can match LCDs in word processing or everday use (unless you factor in cost), but in gaming there really is no substitue for a 21" trinitron running at mega resolution.

Many people also prefer the Western Digital and Seagate drives over Maxtors.

my maxtor is very quite, but i have a problem, i have lost my xp pro disk, does any one know where i can download it, i have the original key, but no disk, im pretty pissed:mad: , i was so looking forward to starting some graphics and i couldn't, HELPPP

Discussing downloading of XP Pro is against the rules, even if you have the cd key I think. You may want to keep in mind when asking such questions that Kuriousity hAd killed Zebras before killing Any cAts. Or is it spelled "curiousity"? Oh well, you get the idea. ;)

oh yea, good call, umm, that cpu fan is so quite when i tune it down, but when i put heavy loads on it and put it on fast and it hums a bit.lol

Kuriousity hAd killed Zebras before killing Any cAts

lol, i think i may have one of *those* copies layin around somewhere umm the system is fast as shit, i think im just goign to set up a partition or two get the SPa off of microsoft for the win2kpro and go with that, i love the system, rock solid

If space is no concern, you could get a bad ass crt for the same price as a much smaller LCD. Even if LCDS have improved lately it still doesnt matter, its like buying the same thing for 30% more.

BTW since tv's run @24 FPS comparing LCD screens to CRTs is like apples and oranges.
