Raspberry already being banufactured.

No, I want a $40 one with Cortex A8 or A9 CPU and dedicated video memory (and 512MB RAM... OK $50)!

The Ethernet port may not be necessary for many applications, so the A version, at a cheaper price, should have a higher demand. Too bad the memory size is halved on the A version, but it is a cost reduced model.

The decision to make the B version first may take advantage of early adopter demand where $10 is no big deal, but it may also be a way to more quickly recoup design and initial production costs. Despite the nerdgasms on enthusiast sites, it's a product that costs money and could be a risk especially since there were no pre-(paid) orders.

Most of the intial sales will be for experimenation/development and working on a linux system without internet is pretty painful (most distros are built round the assumption that you will mostly likely install packages from the internet). So is only having one USB port.

I see the A becoming more popular later as people buy their second or third pi to put into some embedded task where ethernet is not needed.

You could also use a USB Wifi adapter for networking, in which case the Ethernet interface is just extra baggage.
