Raptors get competition from Maxtor

not really.
you need a special mobo that suppose that new tech crap.

they only beat raptors on storage space.

a special mobo? like any mobo based on intel's new 9xx chipsets? Either way the 16MB of cache is the big deal here because the 73GB raptor supports TCQ anyway, so NCQ on the maxtor shouldn't be much of a performace advantage over the raptor.

and when i last looked at that review, the maxtor's beat the raptors in a couple of those benchmarks....

Oh, I'm somewhat of a WD fanboy, but 16MB of cache is enough to grab my attention. Let's hope WD follows suit with a 147MB 10krpm sata drive with a nice 16MB cache to boot.

Winstone and Sysmark seem poor benchmarks to use in this day and age to measure HDD performance, but the NCQ test differences are interesting.

Look over here.

The most comparable drive to this model would be the 200GB Seagate 7200.7 due to platter density.
