i am doing a fresh install of wondows xp 64 bit edition and a disk did not come with my raptor where would i find it to enable windows to recognize it in setup. Cant find it on the WD website.

you need the SATA chipset drivers. go to your mobo manufacturers site and download 'em to a floppy.

Its not a matter of recognizing the Raptor per se, its a matter of windows64 understanding the SATA controller on your motherboard. You will need to do an F6 install with a supplied 64bit driver for the motherboard SATA controller. Since you didn't list which motherboard you were using, I cannot link it. But, you can obtain it from the motherboard manufacturer on their support page link on their website.

you'll be fine with the install.. when your done just get the latest nforce4 drivers and your good to goo.

Then plug your raptor in the grey SATA ports and not the Red SATA ports. Make sure in the BIOS that your controller is set to SATA mode and not RAID mode. Then you won't need a driver for the install. XP will use a set of default drivers for the install.

with that mobo you won't need the drivers loaded on a floppy for an install.
