Yes, its fast.

My cocern--It's almost too loud (I suppose thats the speed trade off) and games seem to lag/chop with HD access--sometimes. Is this just the normal everyday Raptor personality or should I be tweaking something?

Mine seem quiet, but i dont really worry about HDD noise ever. I have never noticed it having choppy load times or anything. But I think all HDDs lag your comp when they load while you are playing, cause its usually storing something to ram.. I suggest more ram?

Sorry, didnt see how much you had. I dont know why your game would be loading that much while you are playing... Please explain more of whats happening.

well of course its gonna be loud. its 10,000 RPMs. how much louder can you get?!?! (well aside from the few 15,000 rpm drives). ;)

i would assume the games may get a little choppy when a HDD is seeking. but it shouldnt really be enough to hender any performance, though it may be slightly noticeable.

I just finally got my Raptor installed and it doesn't seem noisy at all, at least not compared to my 6 year old POS that it just replaced :D . Anyway, that sounds more like a video card problem than a HD problem. Did you just upgrade to the Raptor from another drive? And if so, were you having any problems before you installed the Raptor?

I have my 74 GIG Raptor with my 250 GIG storage drive, about equally quiet. Defragging makes a big difference in how much seek and access noise you might get.

My previous drive was a seagate drive that was real real quiet. In fact, I couldn't hear my machine when it was on, seeking, or anything. It was nice.

Now, my machine feels super fast with this drive. I like it alot and since I am new to this gazillion RPM gig, I was little concerned. The only game it really does it to (after testing them all) is BF Vietnam. But, after the game loads and I play 15 seconds or so, I dont get the lag--have not played online yet though.
