Raptor HD problem - please help me out

Hello guys, im here hoping you guys can help me figure this out. I just reformated, but this was going on before I reformatted. My raptor HD is showing as a "safely remove hardware icon" and it did before, except now its the only drive in my system, before it was a backup. I am running Windows XP pro, all drivers are installed, and my current setup is below.

Again, this is the only HD running right now, and all the drivers are installed. Thanks again, and in advance.

I know this has nothing to do with your question but, which drive do you have? The 36Gb or the 74GB?

If you have the 74Gb what formatted size are you gettig out of it?

I just bought the 74GB and it is comming out to 69Gb formatted.

That's normal.
Windows GB = 1,073,741,824
Disk manufacturer's GB = 1,000,000,000
74,000,000,000/1,073,741,824 = 68.917GB

As for the original question: having that icon will not affect performance of the drive...
Other than accidently disconnecting it, then you'd have to... *gasp* plug it in again

I don't appreciate that. I have indeed bought several hard drives before and have experienced the loss in space due to conversion factors.

I have also had experience buying several SCSI drives and for most of them when they advertise X formatted capacity, you actually get X formatted capacity. This is my first experience getting a drive advertised with a specific "formatted" capacity that has come up well short.

I can understand maufactures monkeying around when you are paying $ .50 a gig, but when you are paying more that $2 per gig this should not be a place that they screw with you. If they advertise a specific "FORMATTED" capacity then you better well get a drive with that formatted capacity.

But anyway, I didn't mean to hijack this thread, I just wanted to find out if I had a bum drive or what.

As far as the removable device icon goes, it really doesn't hurt anything and you can just hid it in the taskbar if it bothers you.

Whatever size drive you are buying.. multiply it's advertised size * 0.93 for it's real size
