Raptor + Caviar SE setup

I have a 80gb WD Caviar SE (7200rpm, 8mb cache), and I just bought a 36.7gb Raptor. :D I wanted to get some opinions on how I should set these two drives up. I was thinking about putting my OS (Windows XP), drivers, and programs on the Raptor, and Files on the IDE HDD. Is this the best way?...or should I just put everything on the raptor until it gets full? Also, should I do a fresh install of the OS, or can I just simply transfer all the OS, and Data onto the Raptor from my IDE drive? How would I go about transferring the data? (I think a program like Norton Ghost is required?)

Since you got a new Raptor, I'd do a clean install and use as little of it as I can in terms of file storage. It's fast, so putting stuff on it to slow it down wouldn't make sense. Keep all your files on your 80.

It's a wonder why nobody responds to stuff like this, it takes 2 minutes to get the guy an adequate answer and yet people choose to ignore it. tsk tsk.
 
Unless you're doing video editing or something really data-intensive (like video editing), I'd put the OS on the Raptor and files on the 80. Windows and a lot of applications use a lot of little files. The better access time of the Raptor will really shine here. Data files are usually read one at a time, and an SE's transfer rate is closter to a Raptor's transfer rate than it's seek time is. If you have more apps & games than the Raptor can hold, put some of them on the 80. MS Office is a good candidate for the 80, since it pops right up even on an old P3-500 w/ 256MB ram. As for games, shooters are probably the best candidate for the 80. RPGs and such tend to load all sorts of random stuff while you're playing. You're lucky to get through 5 minutes of Morrowind w/o a significant disk access. Shooters tend to read a few big files when loading a level so seek time isn't really important. If you play online your favorite shooters should of course have a place on the Raptor. Older games should of course go on the 80. I was mucking about with Baulder's Gate II a couple months ago. A P4 or AXP w/ any 7200 rpm drive is basically overkill for that game, but it still uses several gigs of disk space.
 
I have the same setup, except my second drive is the Caviar 250 GB. I have the Raptor as my OS/apps/games drive, and the 250 as my D drive used only for storage.
