I have a new machine built around a P8Z77-V PRO motherboard and Core I5 cpu. For some reason I keep getting random boots...not reboots...cold boots. The machine will turn off for a short period of time when I ask it to, but then sometime in the next half hour or so will suddenly turn itself back on.

Anyone have any advice or seen this behaviour before?

Thanks in advance!

never seen that happen in years except under 2 conditions:

short somewhere or power button sticking
or
psu fluctuation or loss of power while bios setting to turn machine on after power loss is set to enabled

Thanks. I was thinking PSU as well. Unfortunately the machine is on vacation with a family member, so will have to try and diagnose from a distance. I'll check into those things as best I can.

Thanks! Any other advice out there?????

Press Windows+R, type cmd. Type:
Code:
powercfg -lastwake

Could be anything from scheduled task (wake on RTC), wake on lan, wake on "whatever"...
