random shutdowns...

well i thought all was good with my NeoHE550, but now i seem to be getting random shutdowns. I think I had about 3-4 total yesterday, and I'm not sure if it's PSU related or not. I think the first happened just randomly while I was using the computer during the day. Then, last night, I decided to take off all my overclocks to see if that fixed it, so I tried running prime before I went to bed. about 10 minutes later, i find my computer shut down. so i power back on, thinking it was a fluke. so i run prime again, and go to bed. wake up this morning to my computer being shut down again....

so my question is this something related to the PSU? because i have no overclocks running, yet it shuts down during load...?

i didn't think my rails were a problem because when i checked them thru one of the molexes, everything was within range, and stable. so i'm pretty stumped right now. any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

i'm going to run prime again this morning while i'm at class, so i'll get in a good 2-3 hours of it if it doesn't shutdown.

I've been reading around I have heard that there might be a problem with that power supply and your mobo when running SLI. I'm not sure of the details however as to what the problem is

yeah, i know about those problems, but i didn't think 6600gt's would be a big deal as they don't require extra power to run.

i forgot to check event log, but i will check later when i get home to my apartment...

don't see anything out of the ordinary in event viewer....so i dunno

Then you know it's strictly a hardware problem -- your processor is doing a thermal shutdown, or your power supply is flakey, or your motherboard is bad, and so on.

I just know I read a few things about that power supply and that board in SLI mode. Its some kind of compatibility issue. Perhaps there is a bios update that fixes it?

well i just took out my tv capture card that wasn't being used, so i'll see if that helps at all...i ran prime this morning for about 2 1/2 hours, no problems, so i'll just see if things improve at all for the rest of the day...been lookin into updating my bios, altho i'm kinda skeptical as the 1008's i've been using have been pretty solid for me so far

Check the exhaust fan on your power supply.

I was getting random shutdowns, and investigating for awhile before I realized the intake fan on my PS was spinning, but the exhaust had stopped. Mystery solved.
