So, I built a machine to play BF3, nearly entirely new. I reused my old Power Supply, a PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750w. I also re-used my old HDDs, but I don't think they are a potential cause for this issue.
First, system:
AMD Phenom II X4 955
MSI 890FXA-GD65
8GB Patriot ram
Geforce 560ti
My symptom is a random power-down. I cannot reliably, or unreliably recreate this. It will seemingly power down, Screen goes black, then the Monitor shuts off as though the power were turned off. All fans in the case continue running. When this happens, the reset and power buttons on the case are unresponsive, I must kill the power supply with the switch in order to reset the system.
The CPU is cooled by a Cooler master N520, Playing BF3 for a couple hours and CPU temps max out around 48-49c. I've seen the video card temps much higher, but as according to EVGA's specs, it's well within limits. The case is an Antec 300, and all fan spaces are populated, it seems to run cool.
I'm leaning towards Mobo or Power supply. I haven't been able to find Mobo temp specs, which I'm getting a seemingly high reading off TMPIN1, which I've seen up around 52c. That may bee fine though, I don't have a clue. I'm unused to seeing any Mobo temps above 40c or so.
It does seem to only power down when running a game. Although it's done it while playing Terraria, hardly a strenuous game. And it's stood up to a 5 hour SWTOR marathon. I dunno, I'm at a loss. Is there a good way to test power supplies? I have a quality Multimeter, but I don't have a scope.
