Well , I havent used these forums in quite a bit and they have changed. I figured I would ask here since there tends to be a few smart cookies :D

This is my current story and setup . 64 3700+ , 1g corsair xms 400 , dfi ut lanparty 250gb , agp 6600 gt , fortron bluestorm 500 , 74g raptor . DD "block" water pump , DD cpu\vga cooler, black ice 120 single-panaflow hydro bearing fan . ( fan running off a psu line , pump running off CPU 1 )

Alright so my machine is getting older and problems ive noticed was hooking up any other fans etc causes it not to boot . I am not oc'ing in any way. Ok so ya im under powered but its been fine as long as i hook nothing else up and has never crashed.

Until the other day , Doing normal stuff , doing admin crap in CS , and normal web stuff , I go to open a picture from a random site ( No not porn ) and all of a sudden I can move my cursor but nothing else. nothing is closing or opening and I still hear my music playing in the background doing odd stuttering sometimes .. finally the cursor stops moving but I can still hear the music ( i was listening to something through myspace not winamp etc )

Anyway , Music was still playing and eventually ceased . So I hard locked , Held in the power button and went to reboot . Before the windows splash screen came up the screen went blank ( was still getting signal ) , Uhm ok .. I checked to make sure no air bubbles or blockage in my WC , none and the temps were fine 44c . I went to reboot again , heard a nice depth charge ping from my hdd , this time got some error after the bios splash screen about a raid then it rebooted and kept doing so..

I went into bios and looked around checking my rails ( not exactly great but ok ..chip set likes to jump around 1.4 to 1.68 , cpu stays at 1.47 .. ATX 5 @ 4.94 , dram 2.57 , 12 @11.96 , 1.5 @ 1.48 , 3.3 @ 3.24 ) I check around and my hdd isnt detected? .

I reboot a few more time's making it into windows a couple times then locking minutes after , eventually I just get to the "set up raid blah blah" thingy as before and it just resets after the bios flash screen. I noticed also the bios flash screen was taking a VERY long time just sitting there , even when entering bios it would take a good 25 seconds. I had also noticed in bios where ever I put the hdd ( i had switched it around sata 's thinking something might of gone wrong ) , Whatever drive the HDD is on it takes a extra long time on that sata port searching although does not find it.

I tried freeing some psu lines and making sure i wasnt sharing lines with something else, used lines i had not before just to be safe .. I disconnected everything i didnt need like my dvd drives etc . removed a stick of ram and got back into windows , of course it locked.. I put both sticks in back again . Disconnected the fan for my radiator and went back into windows , i was at least past the "raid" error or whatever it is .

Anyway i kept locking up , but was able to get a good 5min into windows , did wd smart scans and the hdd came back as fine .. WHAT i did notice and the key thing here is every time id lock in windows , my hdd would act like it was "spinning up at boot" same sound same clicks .. then die down and try again .. Sometimes i would get lucky and could move for 2 seconds or my music would stop and i would hear another couple seconds of it.

Same thing happened the other times it crashed , ive had hdd's go bad but this just seems odd , And it was storming the other day when this happened but we never had gotten a surge that i noticed ( it is on a fairly good surge protector )

I AM on that computer right now and it seems to be "ok" but im sure once i start actually doing things it will lock again ( although it can just do it on its own ) ...

Thanks guys and sorry for my confusing post I hope some one can give me an idea of what MIGHT be going on.

Id be mad if I were to get a pcpc 750 psu and have that not resolve my problems , or take my CP filled hdd to get "fixed" and lose all of my data when it wasnt at fault either..

I really want to say its a power issue, because adding a ~5watt fan causing you not to POST is *bad*.

However, the HD noises worry me. sometimes the older ones are just creaky, but I wouldn't take my chances. HD space has never been cheaper man... You don't *need* a 250$ pcpac either.

yeah, I'd 2nd that replace hard drive and possibly psu if the hard drive change doesn't help. I'm fighting my own PSU right now, thank goodness I have a backup :)

Computer started to post again and ran longer with ntune and "ipod" apps closed , Not sure why since I reset all my oc values too stock.

The raptor is still under warranty , I am debating replacing it though since I found out something intresting.

Upon rebooting and getting back into windows , I had gotten a nvidia pop up saying my vid card is being under powered and it will set the clocking down a bit . I guess it ends up being my PSU .

Why I trust reviews from sites like toms and what people write on new egg is beyond me .
