i've read the threads here,on other boards about this.it happens to me either gaming or when the machine is idling.i looked a the event logs and nothing shows up as an error.

i've tired everything except for getting memory and getting a new Mobo and CPU.the next things i may try is moving the soundcard over to another PCI Slot after uninstalling it completey.

my system

400 Watt Vantec PSU that replaced my 300{actually 230 watt} PSU
1.0 Duron
Abit Kt-7 Non Raid
SoundBlaster Live! Value Sound Card
768mb of pc-133
ATI Radeon 9500 128mb Vid Card
an 80 and 40 gig WD HD
Apeon CD-Rom
DVD Buner.

i thnk the problem could be with PCI Latency invovling the Radeon Card{just an idea} or my soundblaster card.

anybody got idea's or fixes for this?

KT7&SB= bad combo. Had many problem with the same setup. Yank the sound card out and see what happens.

you mean just uninstall the card and yank it out?

i might just buy a soundcard.the one i have downstairs is a wave table,i can't find the driver CD/floppy for it. is turtle beach any good?

i didn't have this problem with windows 98 installed.

matter of fact, looking around some more i just found an Creative Labs SB 512 sound Card new in the box.think their would still be problems with that one in?

Yeah, take the card out and see if it fixes your lockup problem.

i yanked it out a few minutes ago.gotta see in a few hours if it lockups.if it doesn't,maybe it's sound card .what cheap sound card could i get if that is the problem?

also i changed up my ethernet card to the last PCI slot on my board.so far,the connection hasn't dropped in a week.

Creative cards don't like to share IRQ's with anything. Turtle beach Santa Cruz and Philip's Acoustic Edge are good cards that don't cause problems, at least not with VIA chipsets.

well ran the machine all of yesterday since that post without the soundcard and no lockups. i put it back in,but one PCI slot up from the old one. so far no lockups :)

but i have hissing when i have my mic enabled now.it's no big deal,i can just mute it and then if i want to play CS or UT2004 i can un-mute it.
