Random Lock ups help....

Today I started getting random lockups. I have made no major changes to my system either latley. Ok so I am just sitting here and I hear a loud "click" come from my case. It was a single click, than the orange led (hdd activity led I think) on my case stayed orange. And the screen on the monitor just frooze, couldn't move mouse, cntrl+alt+del or anything. This has happend three times today so far ! Any ideas ? Specs are in sig and this HDD is only a few months old.
 
I would.....

1. Open your case and check that all your fans are working.
2. Nothing has moved/ broke. Close case.
3. Go into your bios and check your temps and voltages.
4. Download a Hard drive checker from your HDD maker.
5. Download and run Memtest86.

If you find nothing wrong then think Virus.

I have tried 1-5 they all turned out good. It seems to happen when I am really pushing my pc. Like extracting, creating ISO's and ftping a lotta shit.
 
I thought that power supply problem made your PC reboot. This just locks up. It just locked 10 minutes ago and I noticed it locked when I tried to access something on my secondary HDD. It went to spin up click once loud, than I was locked. So now I am also thinking it is the PSU. Grrrr.... any opions to verify ?
 
There are several posts on lock ups today. I am leaning towards virus, I ran norton anti virus. Didn't say anything. This is really pissing me off. I was loading windows and when it was booting into windows after I put in my password I walked away. Came back and one of my hdd's (dunno which) was clicking. Than it frooze. :mad:
 
Sounds like a failing hard drive to me, that or windows took a dump. Id try formating/reinstalling
 
Sounds like a dying HDD to me. Disconnect your secondary HDD and see if you continue to have the problem. If it disappears then you know it is definately the drive. It is not unheard of for new HDDs to die unexpectedly. I went through a couple "DeathStars" myself. ;) good luck ;)
 
the thing is I can't tell which HDD is shitting out. I gotta wait for it to freeze again and put my finger on the drive when its clicking again I guess.
 
I have been running diagnostic tools on my HDD's and they come back all good. I am clueless please help.
