Random Freezes

So where am I to start with getting rid of random freezes? I just reformatted and reloaded XP and only have music production software installed so there is minimal chance for any conflicts. My computer will freeze totally randomly whether I'm multitasking or just opening up a program. It doesn't restart, just completely freezes. Also, I downloaded everything the XP updater wanted to download, as well as the new ATI driver for my 9700.

PS: my mobo's software says the cpu is running about about 48c, system temp is 38c, and northbridge is 62c (not sure if this is ok).
Also, I'm not overclocking anything right now.
