I'm just wondering if anyone has experienced a similar issue to this, or might be able to help pinpoint the cause.

I've got an ASUS EAH4890 outputting via DVI-D to a Dell 3007WFP-HC. Most of the time it's stable, but once in a while the screen will get all garbled. Usually this goes away after a while, but it's extremely annoying. I've verified that the DVI cable I'm using is in fact DVI-D.

The card is being powered by a Corsair 700W power supply and sits in an Asus P6TD-D board (i7-920). I've had zero problems with the system besides this issue.

I don't know whether this has anything to do with it, but it seems to happen more frequently when I'm playing Starcraft 2 at 1920*1200. It does happen randomly just at the Windows desktop as well though (at 2560*1600).

Does this sound like a videocard issue, or a monitor issue? I've had the card longer than the monitor and didn't see any problems before, but it was only outputting at 1920*1200 to a CRT via a VGA adapter.

I'm considering replacing the card with a 6800 series, but I'd prefer not to if there's something I can do to work with this card.

I've tried lowering my default desktop resolution to 1920*1200 (the same I was running before the monitor upgrade), but the issue persists.

If I switch to the alternate DVI output on the card Windows (7) won't give me the option of output at a high resolution. I've already tried uninstalling the drivers and they're up to date.

Any advice or comments would be appreciated...

id check the cable. its possible its bad. if the monitor has a vga hook up maybe try and see how that works to pin point if its the dvi cable, or the monitor, or the card.
 
The monitor only has DVI inputs. I seem to remember trying different cables/adapters when I first started getting the problem, but I'll give it another shot just incase...
 
For anyone coming across this thread with similar issues, it ended up being a monitor hardware defect. I replaced the cables, videocard and the problems persisted.
