Random Computer Reboots?

I just upgraded my comp from PC2100 256mb to PC2700 512mb... After testing 2 sticks of pc2700 my comp kept loading windows and rebooting.... some people have told me my power supply cant handle this but i mean i have a 400watt PSU..


AMD Athlon XP 2500+
Abit NF7
400watt PSU
512mb PC2700 DDR
GeForce 2 Ti
80gb HD 7200
what could this be and is there a simple solution ?

could be bad RAM causing BSOD's..check them with memtest

what are your rails on that 400watt psu? not all 400 watters are "actually" 400watters, the way they test the psu's for wattage depends on temperature... they tend to test at really low temps... so the wattage sky rockets and they can sell more psu's that are crap.

id guess its a heat issue, HOWEVER pc3200 is CHEAPER then pc2700 so..u made a mistake buying it

well i didnt buy it.. i took it out of another pc... and i mean the comp is really well cooled but i mean.. it really randomly does it.. ive been using comp for 4hours and it hasnt rebooted.. and sometimes itll reboot every 15 min or 10 min.. i dont know what to do.. where can i get a memtest to check my BSODS?

try running the ram in a different DIMM, if that doesnt work then you might want to check the RAM's voltage.

i can change the DIMM in the bios? im sort of novice with working with ram in bios in stuff.. are there any defaults it should be running at, i know it auto goes to default but i mean where can i edit all of it

WOW!!! that's a lot of noobies and a lot of memory errors. Make sure you have the latest BIOS revision.

Unfortunately some mobos are finicky when it comes to memory they use. I know my K8VSEDX is. Check the manufacturers website to see if they have a list of memory that has been tested and certified to work with your mobo. Most lesser known or no-name brands will have problems.

in case you didnt know thiago DIMM is an acronym for Dual Inline Memory Module. Its basically the slot you stick your memory in. Sometimes using a different slot (if you have one) can help, but raising memory voltage in the BIOS should get rid of the problem (this usually fixes unstable memory.) Could you check your memory's current voltage and post it here?

is there a general default voltage for all memories or does it change according to comps and if so what should the default be, i may be very "noobie" at some things but the tips and info you guys give me lets me learn and helps me alot.. and i really appreciate it just so you know

I'm pretty sure 2.6 volts is it for desktops now...but I don't know about the really old ones or laptops

I just used Flashmenu to upgrade my bios to the newest version on the website.... Now the computer wont start up!!! I am on a different computer and I'm clueless and completely screwed, Now theres no way for me to boot through cd to reformat or do anything what could I possibly do.. The flashmenu said everything was upgraded properly and needed to reboot, now I reboot and get no beep and it doesn't start up I am in desperate need of you guys right now...

How far did you get the computer to start up to? To be completely honest, flashing the bios is a very last resort as it doesnt always work out that well. Did you make a backup of your bios before overwriting it?.
