Random Boot Issue

Occasionally, during boot, my computer will not initiate the display. The hard drive spins up, the CD/DVD drives are working, and all fans will run fine, however all I will get is a black screen. Simply restarting always fixes it. However, it is incredibly difficult to diagnose as it has only happened twice within two weeks. Other than my system specifications, that is the only information I have about my issue. I was wondering if there is any possible way to isolate the cause behind this slight annoyance. Any tips, recommendations, or help is greatly appreciated.

System Specs:

3.2 Ghz Pentium 4 (800 Mhz FSB 1MB L2 Cache) @ 3.3 Ghz
BFG 7800 GS OC 256 MB AGP
1 GB RAM (2x 512MB Geil DDR400 Dual Channel)
Intel D865PERL Motherboard
2x 320 GB 7,200 RPM Western Digital SATA HDs
120 GB 7,200 RPM Western Digital ATA Hard Drive
@ 500 W

could be your vid card or mobo, try updating your mobo bios and check that all the video card setting in the bios setup. The worst cause scenario could be that your vid card is dying, but very unlikely for what u just told

I have updated the motherboard BIOS to the latest version, I am suspecting that it may be related to the video card as I recently installed that and have been noticing the issue since. However it barely ever happens, so I was wondering if there is an efficient way to test the video card for defects?

hmm, just 3d benchmark programs, see if there are any artifacts, unusual temperatures, or if it freezes or reboot, u might also try to update your video card bios
