Ramsinks from EBAY!!

I was wondering if anyone has purchased these ramsinks off ebay and has any idea of the performance that they deliver.

Here is the link!

If i don't get those I will probably buy ramsinks from SVC. I was thinking about the OCZ copper BGA Ramsinks. They have thin fins and I would think that they would work very well, and they are cheaper than the tweak monsters, and come with thermal tape.

OCZ Ramsinks

Tweak Monsters

Are the tweak monsters that much better to warrant their price and the cost of thermal glue??

Thx for the input.

idk about the others but i heard that the OCZ BGA RAMsinks are supposed to perform quite well.

Both copper, why not just cut up an old AMD heatsink and use that? I'm sure a few of us have those laying around.

Yeah i have some old heatsinks laying around, but I am looking for the most performance, and spending some dough is ok.

But if someone has used there old heatsinks to make ramsinks please tell me how they perform!!

Thx

I just got 8 of these bad boys ($1.25 ea) for my card...

I think I may just cut up my old big P4 heatsink. I could probably make 4 goodsized strips with it (and 8 goodsized smaller pieces from there on).

I'm planning on using another 486 style heatsink that I cut up and used for my VR chips. Each little (BGA sized) chip will have 16 points to radiate from and they are the right color...black. I don't think it will make any difference whether you use aluminum or copper considering that ram typically doesn't heat up much. My 9600 Pro at 538/350 doesn't even feel warm to touch on any of the ram chips.

Edit:

Just looked at both of the above links to OCZ & PC Wonder. Obviously these guys know that ram doesn't heat up much either as they both recommend using stick-on thermal tape, which has been proven in CPU tests to not transfer heat very well

honestly i cant see a ram heatsink doing all that much better then another one, especially if its ran passively (i.e no air flow through the fins.)

but who knows i havent done much reading or had all that much experience with them

The issue is whether the ram heats up to the degree that it requires a heatsink. We used to cool 386's and 486's quite well with passive heatsinks that had no more air going through the case than what was sucked out by the power supply fan. Some of the early 386's didn't even have a heatsink and they would get pretty hot without having any changes in their computational characteristics.

So are they aluminum or copper???
They're both made out of copper, the Tweakmonsters are just nickel plated copper for bling++. Personally I don't spend time looking at my video card, rather what I see on my monitor ;) So hence thusly the OCZ would be my choice.

i like these too - although i'm using tweakmonster bga ramsinks now... the problem with massive copper ramsinks is that they retain heat longer, especially if the case not ventilated too well. i'd go with high pin count on the [above link], although i do like the way these ramsinks look - square and shiny.

That Ebay seller is very confused

Title is: 'Aluminum Video Card BGA Ramsinks RAM sinks'

Comes in set of 4 Tin Coated Aluminum BGA Ramsinks with Ramsinks with 3M Thermal Adhesive tape inclued on the back of the ramsink. No need to buy expensive thermal adhesive to put them on!
These RAM sinks are 100% CNC machined from a solid block of 110 copper and nickel plated (not extruded).

Now it cant be aluminum and copper at the same time, he doesn't know what he is selling. (It can be tin or nickel plated, but this ebay seller is confused)

Currently the best BGA ramsinks are these (Unless you have silversinks, but not many people have them) ;) http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/accessories/OCZ_Copper_BGA_Ramsink

I just bought some ThermalTake Ramsinks at Fry's. They're intended for SDRAM type memory. I was wondering if any of you live in Seattle WA and happen to have a Dremel or some other method of cutting aluminium :) They're too large and a number of components on the card interfere with proper heatsink contact.

Perfect size, composition, material and excellent performance.

Thermal Conductivity, W/cm-K
Metals
(Higher is better) ;)
Aluminum 2.165
Brass 70% copper, 30% zinc 1.220
Copper 3.937
Gold 2.913
Nickel .906
Platinum .734
Silver 4.173

In my experience, ramsinks don't add any memory performance increase. I've put them on GF3's, GF4Ti4200, and my current 9600 Pro. Not one Mhz increase. I used 2 part Artic Alumina epoxy for adhesion. Only improvement is Bling factor.
