yesterday i put ramsinks all over the mosfets on my motherboard at first bootup i noticed a lower temp overall then i was able to turn my ram voltage down from 3 to 2.9 and turn my vcore down from 1.875 1.82 i know its not much of a decrease but it dropped idle temps like 10c gonna buy some more now so i can finish my nf7 v2 did the lanparty with most of them gotta do the vid card too

My eyes, the goggles do nothing!

Seriously man, use some periods. If you added ramsinks, why lower the vcore? And ramsinks have almost no benifit whatsoever on memory.

lowering the vcore would probably extend the life of the chip.. plus make it cooler...

He didn't put the ramsinks on his RAM. He put them on his mosfets.

Question: Did you use double sided tape that came with your ramsinks, or a thermal epoxy?

I sure hope it wasn't the tape!!

I used the tape on my southbridge and mosfets at first with my OCZ copper flower sinks. Well, they heated up and fell off. I could hear them hitting things on their way to the bottom of my case. I had to shut down ASAP so that the mosfet sinks didn't land on my 9800Pro and fry it. :( I had to clean everything and use AS5 and superglue...with all my watercooling stuff in the way. Could barely get my hand in there. :(

Live and learn and use glue.

Superglue and AS5?

This is a very common thing it is a ghetto fix if you do not have AS epoxy..... You put a small dot of super glue on each corner of the chip then you put a dot of AS paste in the center and then attach your ramsink.... it works fairly well :D

used the tape till the artic silver epoxy comes in but the tape should be good for a few days.

I stuck mine on good, and they fell off when I was gaming the next day (ie: as soon as the tape heated up).

AS5+glue isn't really ghetto, it just gives you a much better chance of removing the heatsinks and still works very well. I put small dots on 2 opposite corners, with AS5 over the rest of the surface. With something bigger than ram chips though, you should do 4 corners (like the southbridge).

do you have pics of where you put these ramsinks on your NF7-s?

Is there a site with pictures showing where to put ramsinks on the motherboards?

I recently removed my home made ramsinks (sliced up heatsink), which were attached with AS5 + Ceramique, and attached OCZ ramsinks with the pre-applied thermal tape. The tape is secure enough, however I'm unsure how well they are conducting heat. After heating up my card they did feel a little warm... I overclocked my card and was able to produce artifacts after a bit. I added an 80mm fan blowing across the card, bottom and top. The ramsinks are now cool, however the artifacts remain at this overclock - so I've concluded that the tape doesn't conduct well enough. I'm going to apply them with just Ceramique.

Also I was thinking about using my home made ramsinks for my mosfets. After reading the original post I'm more eager to do so.

Im OCing a NF7-S 2.0 with water and a 2600+ M CPU. I was having serious problems with Voltage being all over the place. Set it at 1.95V and it would be anywhere from 1.875 up to 1.935. Never would hit the set voltage. I was having problems with Prime95 due to the voltage whackiness. I added a set of procooling Mosfet coolers and Voltage conntroller coolers and the Volts now sit at about 1.935-1.94V. Dont hit the 1.95V but are a hell of a lot more stable. Prime 95 now does 24 hours no problem. I heated the tape on the bottom with a hairdryer till they were almost too hot too touch and applied them. They stick very well like that. Gotta hurry after using the hairdryer, they cool quickly (well D-uh).

Nothing like a 2600 running at 2.76G and idling at 33c. :D

Mosfet coolers- they work. They are low cost. Every OCer should use them. Always.

Ill add a pic if I get a chance later on. Well its already later on:

Thats 6 mosfet coolers in a kind of checkerboard pattern and at the top and bottom of the group are 2 slightly larger voltage coolers.

when i put sinks on my video card, i used the double sided tape that was on them already, they stuck on REALLY good, and have lated me 9 months so far, and i tried to pick one off since i have some thermal opoxy, but the ammount of force i was using to try to remove them, was making me a very nervous, i even tried pliers since i could not grip the sinks very well, but ended up bending and scraping the plating off them. i think its hit or miss on the type of tape.

btw, it was very thin, very sticky 3m brand double sided tape that came on the sinks, they are all coper w/ nickel plating. they were more expensive than most other sinks but with free shipping price worked out the same.

My OCZ flower sinks and BGA sinks had the same 3M tape. Instead of prying the sinks off, make them hot to make the glue more pliable (intense game, blow dryer, etc).
