Hey all, I'm not a stranger to overclocking, however I feel out of my element with the latest equipment and looking around the internet for any solid information is fragmented at best when threads run off on a tangent. So I'm pleading with anyone sympathetic enough to help me with Overclocking My new Rampage III + 980x processor. My current bios is 0901 (the latest) and the memory I am running is Corsair Dominator GT 6GB CMT6GX3M3A1600C7 (X.M.P.). I'm not interested in getting carried away as I like moderate overclocking. In this case I would like to OC from stock 3.33 GHz to 3.87. I've been able to do that the simply way by means of the multiplier, but it's not settling with me. I'm curious about doing this leaving the multiplier alone and using BLCK. Unfortunately finding a good template with any understanding has been difficult. I'm uncertain about the voltages required and what not. Can anyone provide the basis of a template that I can follow and test? I also need some understading of the items why Auto, disabled, or enabled. So many people have different thoughts and I usually weed through them until I find what fits me. So please chime in as you care to.
Help ME Please!!!! I'll be glad to post results for anyone else after I can get this down. Thank you.

Just play with the multiplier.

I run a 980x as well, at 4.25 (on a rampage II extreme), just by having changed the multiplier and the Vcore.

Vcore 1.39, Multiplier 32x

Has worked fine since the chips release (bought it on opening day) under heavy gaming and video encoding. Runs a bit bit hot with a Corsair H70 w/c block and a very small, poorly airflow case setup. (need a small case for my apartment in Hong Kong).

Anyway, just keep up the multiplier to 30,31,or,32 and boom, you have a 4.0ghz + that will run fine. (with a voltage tweak)

1.39v is a lot of Vcore. I get 4.2GHz w/ 1.28v on a 930.

You can probably get to 3.8GHz on stock volts. Just up the the multiplier gradually and stress test with LinX or Prime95 with each increase for 15 mins. When you BSOD, go back to the previous settings and stress test it for 5hrs with Prime95 or 20 passes with LinX. This is for long term stability.

28x143 and set the vcore to 1.25. I also set my memory voltage to 1.6 volts, that' that's what the manufacturer called for. Hang on, let me check my memory settings.

Set AI Overclock tuner to manual. That let me run my memory at 2000mhz, thats the speed I bought. If you have 1600, you can set the speed to that.

Easy peasy.

That got me 32 hours of P95 stable, 20 pass LinX with no problem.

If you want, just set the Vcore to 1.25, and the cpu multi to 30 and be done with it you can. It does not get easier than that.

Do a little stability testing, just to make sure you are ok with this clock. If it fails, up it to 1.26, then 1.27, and so on until you pass.
