does it matter which slot the ram is in?

i had mine like 512 slot 512, leaving the empty slot in the middle.

Today i had some problems, removed one of the sticks of ram and vawala, problems are gone

earlier i the year i had both sticks next to eachother, like side by side and had no problems.

is it the slot itself causing my problems or the ram itself ?
 
Wrong way to put the RAM in: The RAM modules should be together at all times. Also, make sure slot one is filled, then two, then three. In your case, it should be RAM RAM slot. Try sticking them in next to each other. If that doesn't work, it may need Memtest86 to show whether there are defective modules or not.
 
I recently had a problem like this, but it was caused mainly because the RAM sticks were from different companies. AN7 sure is picky.
 
Its funny that you replied, cause the brand name of the stick i took out was Elixir :eek:

i bought it @ a computer show i believe, and my other stick is Kingston from Directron.com

i'll mess around and see what happens :rolleyes:
 
well

this here 512 stick is as good as a keychain

just tested it, comp booted, said a file containing reg data was not found, BSOD, turned off comp, took out this stick, booted up just fine :)


time for some new memory :(

this time i won't be cheap and i'll get brand name w/warranty :)
