So I am planning to build a 2500+ setup with ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe with overclocking in mind. What type of ram should I use? Is there a good resource for getting educated on ram? I wanna make decisions based on knowlege and not necessairly popularity.

thanks,

ct

from what I am hearing corsair XMS 3500 and 3700 are performing nicely and the kingston hyper x 3500 rocks...and then you got mushkin..sure youll give your first born son for their stuff..but it kicks ass

as it stands right now ive only messed with corsair XMS 3200 with great results...and I played with mushkin back in the PC133 days that stuff ran wicked fast

When I had to choose between sort of ram I was either looking at some 3500 or 3200. everybody told me to go with 3500 because it as the best mhz/timing ratio. So I was looking at 3500 memory stick and found out that being faster then 3200 by little they also had a more relax timing. So I went with the lowest timing possible on a 3200 stick ( Corsair 3200LL ) and said to myself , if I want 3500 ill just relax the timing and use my 3200 at 3500 speed. The thing is, im now using my Corsair 3200LL at 220mhz with the original 3200LL timing wich is faster the 3500 at relax timing.

You pay more for Corsair but you cant go wrong.

hope that help.

if overclocking is your goal, the a7n8x is not your board. The DFI inifinty boards are much, much better. As for ram.. the general rule is anything bh-5. New it costs a good deal.. you can find it in Mushkin 3500 LvL 2 black, OCZ 3500 LE, and older corsair 3500, maybe 3200, kingston 3200, and even really old kingston 2700 valueram.

so basicly your saying that some Hyper X 3500 will out perform XMS 3700?

not neccessarily. Depends on what you find on those sticks. BH-5 is the absolute best for AMD because of the super tight (2-2-2-5) timings it will run at 200+ fsb. The problem is its hard to find now a days. Youve either gotta get mushkin lvl 2 or ocz le 3500 for it to be garunteed.

Dude, wtf you talking about. A7N8X boards are pretty good overclockers. Sure, DFI NF2 Ultra LanParty B board can hit 250 FSB with like really good cooling but who ever said that he would even be able to go that high. He never mentioned he was going to get watercooling or phasechange or prometeia.

Mushkin Black Lvl. 2 PC3500 has BH-5 chips guaranteed but Mushkin said they were running out of BH-5 chips so they're going to start using other stuff in them soon. And by the way, 2-2-2-11 is better than 2-2-2-5 on nForce2 boards.

If I could find some 3500 with these BH-5's thatll do stupidly high FSB speed with decent timing then ill be happy....however finding the stuff I have not been able to..with out going mushkin...but god I dont wanna pay their price :(

but how high is this mushkin 3500 actually hitting?

it was a revision of a ram module. they OC really well with pretty tight timings. its just a bitch to find them anymore..except thru mushkin..then youll end up selling your kidney for it !

The two last module, have ECC, wich is an error correction function for ram module.
