Im in need of new ram.

My current system:

Athlon 64 3000+
MSI Neo-fsr
Radeon 9800 Pro
1.83gb pc 2100 (1x256 pc2100,1x512 pc3200, 1x1gb pc2700)

The reason I have all those mixed is because the 1 gig stick and the 512 stick do NOT work in my computer unless paired with the pc 2100 stick. I beleive both stick are faulty (the 2700 and 3200).. because when i run my computer with the 256 pc2100, it runs just fine, no errors. When I put them all together.. it is pretty stable, but games eventually crash (after 30mins to an hour). When i use either the pc2700 or pc3200 stick by themselves, games crash within 3 minutes, and the computer is very unstable.

My question is:

With my current system setup. How much would i gain with THIS ram.

It is on sale at Best Buy for $99. Plus, my friend works there and can get me something like a 15% discount.

Would my system be affected much by those timings?


I am pretty CERTAIN my games would run a lot better with the faster ram.. even though its 1.3 gigs less. Ive noticed that ram speeds affect the computer a lot.

This slow pc 2100 just isnt cutting it..

I dont care how cheap it is, PC3700 or higher with Hynix chips is junk. Timings are extremely important so dont waste your money on that.

I would suggest Mushkin PC3200 or PC3500 lvl 1 or Corsair PC3200 or PC3500. It will be like $213 for 1GB of the Mushkin.

More bandwidth is useless if you dont have a processor that can take advantage of it.

You can see the ZERO benefit of an FX-51 over an A64 3400+. The FX-51 has about triple the bandwidth and yet the A64 even beats it in some benches and its tied in the rest.
 
So, timings of 3-4-4-8-1 are horrible?

Will it have a huge affect on performance though. I hear with the A64 processors, timing doesnt have as much of an impact.. but I dont know.

Im not looking to spend a fortune on this stuff either.

Yes 3-4-4-8 in my book is horrible. You'll get better performance especially in gaming with less bandwidth and tighter timings then you will with more bandwidth (PC4000) and looser timings.

Timings dont discriminate against processors. They aren't racial in any way i promise lol.

Timings have to do with how many clock cycles its going to take before it can access the data in the system memory. If it takes forever for it to do that then the fact you have more bandwidth doesn't mean much for things like games that require quick access.

If the A64 doesn't seem like it requires as tight of timings its because of the fact that it has an on-die memory controller that cuts down on latency already. But having RAM with tight timings will just further the performance.
