RAM - Need Help, So Confused

I read the Memory FAQ thread not to long ago and now I'm looking for ram. It was a very imformative guide and I understood most of it except for the probably the most important thing - synchronous operation with ram.

100/200 MHz => DDR200 or PC1600
133/266 MHz => DDR266 or PC2100
166/333 MHz => DDR333 or PC2700
185/370 MHz => DDR370 or PC3000
200/400 MHz => DDR400 or PC3200
217/433 MHz => DDR433 or PC3500
I'm trying to get a 1:1 ratio speed with my ram so if I bought PC3200 I should set my FBS as 200? WcpuID says that my system clock is 133 with an 18 multiplier, if i set it as 200 though it would be at 3600 and chances are good that my CPU will die very fast. Did I do something wrong though? I really must be missing something, can I lower my multiplier down or something?

And also jsut to make sure, to run something at DDR I should preferably get identical ram of the same size. They should also occuppy slots 1 and 2, and I probably shouldnt use my old ram.

Thanks again, hopefully you can [H]elp out!

Also getting this RAM. Good, bad, ugly, fugly?

what are your system specs

i don't think you cpu is up to doing 3.6ghz

but if you can get it up there it would be fine.

it is the voltage and heat that kills the cpu not the clock speed [mostly]

Oops sorry about that. Specs are

p4 2.4
asus p4pe
mushkin 2100 512 (getting the double 256 2-2-2 3200)
gefoce fx 5200
sound blaster live! mp3+
copper zalman silent fan

anything else I shoud list?

so can anyone give me a number for FBS that would make it sync yet be possible?

2.4b's are not going to hit 3.6@200fsb but 2.4C's will hit 3.6@300fsb.

don't waste your money on pc 3200

if you really wanted get some pc 2700

do expect to get very high with your cpu.

3.0 if your EXTREMELY lucky

if you got the money get a 2.4c and some gooooooood pc3500 that goes good in 5:4

Don't try to match your FSB to your RAM. pc3200 is just it's max rating, the fastest that it CAN do. It will be perfectly happy running at pc2700 speeds, or pc2100 or whatever.

You can just put it at 1:1 and put the FSB at whatever you want, or use a divider to run the RAM faster than the FSB so you get a little extra bandwidth. If you put it at 1:1, any speed that you set the FSB to, the RAM will also run at that speed automatically. If your fsb is 133, then your ram will run at PC2100 speeds, even if it's pc3200 RAM. If it's a 166 fsb, your RAM will run at pc2700. If your FSB is 200, it will run at pc3200 speeds. Or anything inbetween.

Don't worry about it, that RAM will be fine.

so a good pair of 2700 with FSB of 166 with 18 multiplyer making it around 3 ghz sound good?

That will work. Or anything lower than 3 ghZ will work too.
