I bought some new ram that came today.

Its the same make and specification as the existing module - Crucial Ballistix DDR 400 (pc 3200)

The problem is that the system with both modules of 512 in will run at 266 mhz DRAM clock, whereas with either of them in alone will run at 400.

Board is an asus K8v-MX running a sempron 2800+

Any suggestions?

look carefully at both sticks, does one have chips on both sides, and the other only has chips on one side.. though with a s754, that shouldn't matter. no dual channel.

have you tried manually forcing ddr400?
