Hi guys!

I'd like to get some advise on the placing of memory modules on a Supermicro X9SCL-F (in a 5017C-LF server) motherboard, currentlyit has 3 installed memory modules (8GB each) for a total of 24 Gb of RAM, looking at the memory slots I observe the following branding:

DIM1A
DIM2A blue slot (ch2)
DIM1B
DIM2B blue slot (ch2)

The modules in red are the ones populated.

I need to remove one of the modules so I remain with 16 Gb of RAM, I was told that is a good practice to group memory modules in pairs for each CPU this for better performance.

So my question would be, which slot should I left empty (or wich ones should left populated) in order to get the most of the remaining (now 16 Gb) RAM?

As long as the two remaining DIMMs are in the same channel slot (based on color) you should be fine. The E3's integrated memory controller is pretty smart, the x9scm/l motherboard manual on SM's website should tell the preferred slot but it shouldn't matter.
