RAM for Q6600

With a budget of $200AU, what the hell RAM would be best suited to run in conjunction with a Q6600?
 
hmmf. Ballistix pc8500 2gb = $174 CAN
OCZ Reaper pc8500 2gb = $150ish
Or you can pretty much.. search the forums.. ?
 
If you dont overclock at all then you should get PC6400 ram.

Reasons:
-That CPU at 1:1 (Synced) need only PC4300 Ram.
-PC6400 is not realy more expensive than PC4300 Ram anyway.
-The extra headroom should be enough in case you decide to overclock in the future or switch to a new CPU with a faster FSB.
-The performance increase of PC8000+ ram i not worth the price difference unless you overclock a lot or try to overclock a 63xx/64xx line Core 2.

And even if you overclock the Q6600, you will hit the cpu limit before you reach the DDR2-800 speeds ;) A PC2-6400 set is enough.

actually. since the op mentions in $AU, i assume he is in Australia.

btw, the price for DDR2 800 and DDR 667 is quiet a big difference here. say from a particular computer shop locally (that shop is quiet popular and cheap however they are limited in some of the product choices)

a 2gb kit of ocz memory of DDR2 667 would cost $ 95 AUD, where a DDR2 -800 of the same brand would cost 159 AU. thats 64 dollars of difference.. for a product of 95 dollars thats a quiet big of a difference...

i am wonderng the same thing as the original poster too.. i'm planning to get a q6600 possibly when the july price drops happens, but i am not sure about the ram to get either, giving the price difference they are currently.. maybe they will drop by the end of july by who knows...

do you guys think its worth it to pay the extra 67% of money from DDR 2 -667 to DDR2 800 is worth it for the performance gain? now i am not sure if i am planning to overclock but i'm really not sure how those core2 / quad core works in terms of the FSB of the cpu in relation to the memory.. is it that they can work independently ? thanks.
