How much is sufficient? I have 2 x 512MB sticks right now, wondering if I'll see any difference if I upgrade to 2 x 1GB sticks. This will go into a (currently in the works) setup with an E8400/QXXXX running vmware/linux/smp and some gpu client(s).

Well i have an e8400 at stock running on 512mb generic ram. Couldn't wait for good ram to come in :p So far I'm getting around 1600ppd at stock speeds with 4 a1 cores running. If you run virtual machine on quad rig 2gb will suffice, just give each 512mb ram each and you should be fine

A2 protiens need double the ram of the A1 protiens.
So its upto around 800Mb min now if you want to get them.
The GPU client only uses around 50Mb.
So with a couple of VM's and a GPU then 2Gb is the min I'd run to get max PpD.

Luck ........... :D

Great. 2 x 1GB it is then. Thanks for the quick and helpful replies as always.

Now, to go find some cheapass RAM...
