Ram for a Q6600

Hey guys, I was just wondering what speed of memory I should use (DDR2 800 or DDR2 1066) if im going to oc the Q6600 to about 3ghz or 3.2ghz?

Erm, DDR2-800MHz is all you need. That will allow an overclock of up to 3.6GHz (800/2 = 400MHz FSB * 9 multiplier = 3.6GHz).

Well, I've read some good things about the Reapers but I have never personally used them. However, I DO run the Corsair Dominators (8500C5D's) 1066mhz modules. They are awesome! I am extremely impressed with the Dominators!

I'll pick option C: DDR2-1000. That'll allow for a much higher FSB than you can hope for with that Q6600, and a 4GB kit (2x2GB) of it is less than $100.

Alright cool, I currently am using the DDR2 800 Reapers, they are nice, but i am going to throw them into a development server. I was curious when I saw the Dominators 4 GB modules released at 8500.

You could run DDR 667 if all you wanted was stock, but I'd get DDR 800 minimum.

You can always run higher rated ram so it will run cooler if you wanted to. You'd pay more and the only gain may be lower temp ram modules. But hey, it's your money.

I'm talking about running 1:1 with the multiplier at its stock value. DDR2-1000 will carry it up to 500FSB, which is a dream for most Q6600s.

Why buy 1066 when you can run 400x9 = 3.6Ghz on DDR800 at 1:1? You're not going to get much past there without watercooling anyway.

Very true; I forget not everyone is running water.

I still stand behind those sticks though; they're great value..

In my opinion that makes no sense because the G.Skill rated at DDR2-1000 (which would allow you to drop the multiplier and go for a higher RAM speed than the 800 without worrying about whether your RAM will hit speeds >400FSB) and is the same price as that OCZ Reaper kit.
