I was just looking at my old newegg receipts for a Transcend RMA & I paid $130 for 4 * 8GB in Sep 2012 :-(

With that being said, I just recently bought DDR3-1886 cas 10 (2*8GB) for $110 shipped from egg.

The Black Friday deals this year relatively suck. But this is about as good as it's going to get.

ram prices seem to have gone up. i seem to remember getting 8gb of that gskill sniper ram for like $25. but that was a year or more ago

From what I hear it's due to manufacturers ramping up for DDR4 driving DDR3 prices up. Though that could be straight up BS.

Ive heard it could be from manufacturers devoting more of their production lines to smartphone ram, which is higher in demand, than desktop laptop ram. That would make a little more sense in my mind, but perhaps its both.

This is more or less true. They limit nearly all production of previous generation RAM to begin the next generation. This pattern repeats itself every 4-5 years with every next DDR generation.
