RAM cooler assemblies; do you have one?

My RAM has been getting really warm/borderline hot and I wanted to get a cooler assembly for it but the reviews for different ones seem to be all over the place, even ones from companies like Zalman and Corsair. Complaints range from shoddy frames to fans that fail or sound like a cat being killed. I do understand that all reviews are just anecdotal evidence and what happens to one is not necessarily indicative of the overall.

I have it kludged right now with a 120mm propped up blowing on it, but I would like a better looking solution. :p

Have you guys used them and if so, what did you buy?

Thanks.

I use a cheap GSkill one from newegg that works great. Some people have complained that it's a bit weak in the frame area, but unless they're throwing their computers around I think it'd be fine. Mine shifts when cables are shoved against it (namely the main mobo power connector), but in terms of general usage it's pretty good. Fans are quiet on it, atleast quieter than the rest of my case, which is admittedly likely louder than most people's.

Link to it. I originally got one because I got another triple channel kit of DDR3 and they've got the corsair dominator heatsinks on them, which are pretty big, so I was worried since they were touching each other that there wouldn't be enough air circulation.

I also just bought another one for a retrofitted gaming computer I used that's now a home server because the fans are all on super low air flow and there's not a lot hitting the ram and I want to keep it nice and cool.

PS: The blue lights on it are pretty bright, I haven't looked into cutting them yet.

I saw that one earlier today and people seemed to like it, so it was one that I was really considering. I will go ahead and order it. Thanks!

I went for the gskill one over the corsair one, even with the dominator memory, because the gskill one utilizes 2 50mm fans instead of 3 40mm ones, generally making it a little quieter.

I have the corsair airflow.

Its the loudest thing in my system. I have it set to lower speeds on my motherboard drivers.

DDR2 and DDR3 DRAM chips have a minimum max temp rating of at least 85C and put out so little power that they don't need special cooling. That's why you rarely find even heatsinks on high quality modules, with some Samsung DDR3 being an exception. (the only exception?)

I wouldn't include samsung. They dont market themselves as high performance ram, but go for low voltage "green" ram niche. It just happens that we're [h] here and like to put 1.5v on their 1.35v modules and clock the piss out of them because we can, and samsung are great performers in that regard.

Geil's black dragon series go up to 2200mhz @ 1.65v and dont have heatsinks.

warm to borderline hot? you mean to touch?
realize that *hot* would probably be 55C+

then read up, where larry said they run to at least 85C.

Modern ram really doesn't need cooling... but hey, it's your money!

+1 DDR3 runs very cool and shouldn't need after market cooling.

That said adding heat spreaders adds to the bling factor. As long as you don't need to void the warranty to put them on I say go for it.
