Hi All,
I just upgraded from 2x512mb to 1GB PC2700 beside 1 512Mb PC3200, both sticks are DDR1 333mhz 2.5v....only 2 DIMMS available.

I cant get the 512 to register, I tried switching and a BIOS update...still the same...the
The 1GB is fine and shows up in Everest. Oh, how would I check if the BIOS update worked correctly?
Board is:
Gigabyte GA-8SIMLNF ...the NFis an Packard Bell addon. I checked with the Crucial conifg page...it states if the board is only supporting DUAL CHANNEL then pairs must be used...I dont know how to tell if Im using DUAL CHANNEL, but if I am then we are sorted on the issue?

All good advice welcome,

Berne:confused:

I think that board needs PC2100 or PC2700 ram in pairs to work properly.

just to make sure I understand this...

you had:
2x512mb PCwhat?

you ugpraded to:
1x1024mb PC2700
1x512mb PC3200

correct?

if 1 stick is PC2700 and 1 is PC3200, then they are NOT both DDR1 333mhz.

the whole supports only dual channel, would mean you have 2 equal sticks of memory. I don't think 2 different size and speed sticks can run in dual-channel mode.

There are two DIMM sockets, my board does not support Dual Channel, so that issue is taken care of, therefore theoretically 1GB PC2700 and 1x 512mb of PC2700 ( sorry my error, just reading the FAQ's and all 333mhz are PC2700 ) should still work...I just updated the BIOS and all is well there, but the BIOS is only showing 1GB installed, and the same in My Comp properties.

I think I have run into the redherring of trying to match memory made by different companies, the 1GB is Ebay and the 512mb was from a pair of Crucial. Bottom line here people is once again match your memory when upgrading, mixing different manu has a high compatibilty risk as I seem to have learned to my cost.

All the best ,

Berne
