I'm looking to do a massive upgrade to my system, get one of those shifty new a64's (kinda old now, but still kick ass) and watercooling, as I am looking to churn this thing out. However, word on the street is, you need some good RAM to OC FSB speeds... and so here's my dilema...
I need 1gb of DDR400 ram, that will OC well. Now, Corsair has some nice 2-2-2-5 gig sets, and that's all kosher except for the undeniable minimum price tag of around $335. Considering my generic DDR266 ram has never given me fuss when i push it further, im thinking, what the hell? why not just a cheaper option? You can get a gig of DDR400 on a single module for about $120 now.
And also, I doubt I will be able to use the 2-2-2-5 timings with an abit KV8 pro and the 3000+ i'm planning to get.
So, anyone with experience, can you suggest some not-so-rediculously-priced RAM that will not hold me too far back from achieving overclocking nirvana? (erm, I would like to do what hardOCP pulled off with that 3000+, 2.45 ghz... of course they used the Corsair 2-2-2-5's.) You think it's possible with cheaper ram?
