Rail levels - What is acceptable?

What is an acceptable differential for each rail, e.g. if a 12v rail is at 12.25v is that still alright, or will it damage the hard ware, and if a 5v rail is at 5.35v is that dangerous?

Plus or minus 3% is good, 5% is supposedly allowable.

Basic Spec compliance of 5% is
+12V....11.4V to 12.6V
+5V......4.75V to 5.25V
+3.3V...3.135V to 3.465V

software readings are often "off" so to determine if your +5V rail is actually at that value youd need to use a multimeter

and yes that value is too high and would wear on components given time
if its simply that +5V rail, you likely be able to trim the pot back to compliance

can you trim the pots back on all PSUs, or are there just a few makes/models that have this capability without mods?

in other words, it is possible that he'll have to mod his PSU to be able to trim the pot back?

well computerpro3's little list and guide is as extensive as hes been able to make it
its quite common to have pots on "high performance" supplies
so its often a look and see thing, followed by research as some pots can be quite dangerous
and shouldnt be adjusted, knowing which is which being the trick
