I have a 6-disk RAID5 on my workstation using a Raidcore BC4000 8-port card and 6 WD2000JD drives. This is the new BC card where I THOUGHT the drive dropping issues has been fixed)

This morning I had the alarm go off saying I have lost 2 drives on channels 0 and 1. This sent my Raid5 offline and I went to take a closer look at my two offline drives. I was not hearing any noise usually found when a hard drive dies and I was able to check the S.M.A.R.T status & performace tests with some low level disk tools and they checked out ok on my motherboard SATA port.

When I initially boot up, the first two HD access lights on the card are solid, while the rest quickly check the others.

I am almost positive that my drives are still ok. The odds of two drives (that have been online since June) going out at the same time are very small. I feel this is a card issue and have critical data on my raid5 that I would prefer not to loose.

Is there anything I can do so that I may keep my data?
Has anyone else had channel drop on them like this (channels 0+1)?
Has anyone ever recieved a responce from support through RAIDCORE?

Please help...
 
So... a little update as to the service of Broadcom.

I was called by a CSR and asked a few questions. They then decided to send me a new RAIDCORE card fedex overnight to me.

This is the best service I have ever recieved from a computer company. Hopefully this new card address the issue but we will see..

Raidcore problems are notorious for dropping drives. A whole bunch of people at the AVS forums bought the 8-port version, and loaded them up with WD 250GB drives. The initial RC cards and even some of the new BC cards seem to have problems with WD drives, where drives would be bumped offline. Sometimes rebooting and unplugging, plugging in would work. Though typically it would require you to make the disk become a hot spare, rebuild the array and then go from there (so you'd have to have a hot spare all the time). Its nice they offered to send you a new card. If you read the reviews of the BC4xxx cards you'll notice they get drives along with the card for testing (usually seagate).
 
I have always been a fan of using WD drives on my Promise raid cause they were fast, cheap and lasted a long time.

I purchased the setup with drives back in June only to find out a month later, WD releases a special RAID EDITION WD2500 drives. These new drives address the issue of being dropped by turning off some limited error correction thing.

If I would have known about this issue you can be damn sure I would have gotten different drives.
