i currently have WD 80gb 2mb cache drives in a RAID0 array, and id like to get some redundancy on them, as well as being able to become more experienced with RAID. however, its now more expensive to get 2mb cache drives than 8mb cache drives. theoretically, there shouldnt be any problem with have 2mb and 8mb drives in the same array, AFAIK. is this correct? would it be better to keep everything the same? am i over analyzing? thanks.

its best to use matched drives ;)

and of course the more drives in a RAID5 the better the efficiency
with minimum of 3

It is best to use matched drives, as with all arrays, the array conforms to the smallest slowest drive, but in this case it really wont matter that you're getting wd jb drives.

thanks, thats what i figured. now another question, since i have the drives in raid0 now, is there any way to migrate to raid5 without having to backup all the data? how about going to 0+1 instead? also, i plan on going from a highpoint to promise controller, so i dont know if that will make me have to rebuild the array for sure. thanks again.
