If I have 2 x 80GB drives in RAID1 on an Intel® Server Board SE7520BD2, and I plan on using acronis Disk Image to image and expand the array onto 2x 500GB drives, what is the best practice if I do not want the array to ever be in a degraded mode?

Comment on my method here...

I plan on taking the server down, then taking the 80GB drives and putting them in a seperate computer. Starting up acronis, and then imaging and resizing the disks onto the 500's.

When I put the 500's back into the server, will the parity be broken? I've expanded the array, but the data on both are exactly the same...just the MBR and file system has slightly changed.

Would it be better to just do an image from disk to disk with no resizing?

Please comment.

Thanks,

Greg

Why not create a new RAID-1 array on the 500GB drives and then image from the 80GB RAID-1 onto the 500GB RAID-1?

edit: Ah, I see only two SATA ports.
