How do I know if my computer supports raid (the one where you can run two hd's with the same info.. as a kind of back-up precaution).

I have an ABIT IC7

I am wondering if I have a 200gig hd now,... can I do this raid thing later.. or would I have to buy the hd now.. and configure it right off the bat.

Two drives with the same data would be RAID1. It's pretty commonly supported, and most implementations allow you to simply add another drive later to create an array.

that board does support SATA raid, as for doing it now or later, i have never set up a RAID so i have no idea.

I need to run raid1 .. I have a 200 gig hd/ and an 80 gig hd both ide... what do you recommend to get..?

fisrt off the drives have to be the same size, so get another 200 gig drive. Other than that you don't need anything because the mobo supports raid.

Unless your board supports raid for devices on the IDE channels as well as SATA channels, you'll need to buy two sata drives of the same size. Decide what capacity you need on your raid-1 array, and then buy two SATA drives of that capacity (eg. 80gb would need 2x80gb sata drives)

Let's say my mobob doesnt support raid for IDE.. what do you suggest for me to do?

Buy two new hd's... (SATA)
but then how would I use the 200 gig hd? What kind of stuff should i store there?
