Current Setup: Perc 5/i with 8x 2TB WD Red (Circa 2012) - Running Raid 5

Had a hard drive fail the other day and in the process of recovery now.
After looking at the drive dates, all being 2012, i think it is time for some new ones before more failures occur.
I was thinking about using the LSI 9261-8i controller and run Raid 1 instead for "better" data protection.
I only have 6TB of Data stored so wanted to use 4x 6TB Drives in the new config.
Any comments or suggestions on if this is a good configuration?

4 drives RAID 1? So you are going to have 4 copies of the data? That's a huge space penalty...be better to have a 2 drive mirror. And use the other 2 drives as a legitimate backup target, preferably off-site.

I'm a big fan of RAID 6. Performance can be good if you have the right controller, or it can be low if you have a cheap controller and are fine with the lower performance. It gets you 2-disk redundancy, which is super nice, and assuming you have >4 hard drives you lose less capacity than RAID 10. 4 drives in RAID1 seems wasteful. natelabo has the idea with regards to splitting the drives up rather than doing 4x RAID1.

I was going to split the drives in two arrays. Sorry, I should have clarified that in the first place.
