Ok, this is the second time in 6 months my RAID drive has gone critical. The physical disks are fine. There is nothing wrong with my hardware. The problem is the shoddy second rate AMD RAID feature.

I want a software RAID setup like MDADM for win7. It must have RAID5. Does anyone know of such a program?

I do not believe such a thing exists and what I am talking about mdadm like performance on windows software raid.

I'm looking for reliability, not speed. My Promise controller never screwed up like this.
 
Are you overclocking and have you checked/replaced any of the cables?

You probably have already done/know this but I was just checking. :)
 
I'm in the process of finishing up a FlexRAID build.

Using a parity drive similar to RAID 5 but much more flexible and energy efficient. You should check it out since it is software based.

You did not say what the reliability problem was however have you checked the SMART on the individual drives using a program like CrystalDiskInfo?
 
I use windows software raid 5 with 4x 2TB disks. It has great performance because windows does not calculate the parity bit real time. And it is flexible enough for me to put into any windows 7 machine and be recognized.

Yea, I checked SMART, pc wizard, crystal disk, seagate tools, and none of them say anything is wrong with the disk. I am of the opinion that motherboard RAID is kind of budget.

Do you have the server version? Because I have ultimate and even that doesn't have raid5 built in. It has the option, but it is greyed out. I guess Balmer just likes to tease us.

I'll check out flex raid if google can find it for me. Thanks.
