RAID set up Problem

Hello everybody,
I had just finished assembling a new system with the following HW:

Asus Commando P965/ICH8R Socket 775
Intel C2Duo E6600 Conroe
Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C4D 2GB DDR2-800
A single WD Raptor WD1500ADFD
Two WD Caviar SE16 WD2500KS
GIGABYTE GV-NX76T256D-RH, GeForce 7600GT

The Raptor is the system disk with XP Pro 32bit. It will stay as a stand alone. Now I want to set the other two WD HDD-s in RAID0 volume. This is my first attempt with RAID. I think I am doing something wrong. Here are the steps I have done:

1. In BIOS change the SATA drives mode from “IDE” to “RAID”.
2. After the POST, using the ASUS RAID ROM utility I provision the RAID0 volume with members the two WD2500KS.
3. Exit the RAID utility, reboot and as soon the PC starts loading XP follows BSD.

I will appreciate any suggestion how to handle the problem.

Are you sure you have the right drivers for RAID on that controller? Try switching back to IDE mode and installing the drivers, then back to RAID mode. Or possibly try booting in RAID mode with no drives attached, with the drivers you have now. If it boots, you can look around device manager and see what it says about the controller.

First question, why even run Raid on storage drives? If a drive dies, or controller, everything is gone. Plus if data corruption (which is pretty frequent in Raid 0) occurs, you'll be pretty stressed on getting that data back.

The two drives in RAID0 will not be a long term storage. They will be a working space for video/image editing and a short time storage. I have a file server in the LAN.

Taqueso,
I am afraid that I am in a vicious circle: The MB came with the Intel’s Matrix storage SW. I have to install it from within Windows. The OS does not see the RAID controller, when I boot with SATA in IDE mode and I can’t install the drivers. If I try to set SATA in RAID mode I can’t boot.
