So I bought the ASUS P8Z68-V PRO recently and was wondering which pair of drives I should raid in the 6gb/s ports. I have two 120GB OCZ Vertex IIIs 6gb/s and two Seagate Barracudas 1TB 6.0Gb/s. I plan to put the OS and program files on the two SSDs but want to put the games and storage on the paired spindle drives. My questions is, which pair of drives should I raid for better gaming? As the specs appear to me you can only raid two of the four 6gb/s ports on this board.
 
I would not raid any of them. Use the second 1TB to backup the first. Also if you do not need anything backed up (have no valuable data at all) and you really want to raid you can put the SSDs on the SATA III ports and the hard drives on the SATA II ports. Remember that hard drives do not come close to needing SATA III speeds they have just started needing SATA II in 2011 with the few drives that net over 150MB/s STR.
 
Really? I thought you got a little extra speed by raiding drives.. I guess I could just mirror the two seagates and not worry about backups.
 
For SSDs what you gain in the real world is not that much because you generally do not do a lot of large sequential file reads/writes and SSDs are already crazy fast at that anyways.

If you stripe the HD, yes, they'll be faster, but as drescherjm mentioned, use one for backups. imho, it is a better arrangement to have a dedicated backup drive.

Nope. Mirroring does not mean you don't have to worry about backups. It means you have to worry less about down time if a drive fails. Raid is not a backup solution, it is an availability solution.
