I just bought a new Foxconn nForce 6150 motherboard. I have 1-74Gb raptor, which I'd like to use as my C: drive. And 3-250GB WD raid drives. Which I'd like to run in raid 5. My question is whether or not it's possible to run these this way, or will the motherboard have a problem because of the raptor not being part of the array? So far, I've had problems trying to get it running. When I turn on Raid in the BIOS, the hard drives do not show up in the WinXP setup. Even after configuring the array in the Nvidia Raid setup. Anyone out there have 4 drives connected to their onboard SATA connectors, but only using 3 as part of their array?
 
You probably need to use a floppy disk to load the nvraid drivers before setup. There is a point in setup when "press F6 now if you need to install third party drivers..."

Technically there shouldn't be a problem. That is what the setup utilities are used for.

Only plug in the raptor, install windows, then connect the other drives and configure it. If you aren't putting system files on the array, don't worry about it until windows is installed.

Install only your raptor

Instal windows to you raptor.

your BIOS may have a setting to turn RAID on or off - check to make sure its on

Install all of your mother board drivers (should include RAID drivers)

Install your three 250GB drives

Run the RAID utility that was installed with your drivers

Configure array

Format if needed

You're ready to go!
 
I did slip-stream the driver into my WinXP installation disc. And the bios does have the option to turn raid on and off. But I am going to install the OS onto the raptor by itself, and then try and get the raid working afterwards. Hopefully that works out better. I'll let ya's know. Thanks for the help!
