RAID problem on intel matrix storage.

(I hav a duplicate thread on Motherboard saection too...!!)
I was building a system for a person with RAID5. I am using 4 1TB (SATA) Hard drives and when you select RAID5 in the Matrix Storage Utility, It gives you only 2TB of storage. But supposedly 4X1TBs RAID5ed shud give you 3TB..???? Anybody can help on this,

And another problem that might be related,
When you are installing XP, in the HDD selection page, when you select some drives, it says that you does not have a valid partition to copy installaion files. On some HDDs it works fine. And the HDD are brand new unpartitioned ones.

I thought it might be a bad SATA controller in the motherboard, or maybe bad HDDs...! anyone have an idea??

NTFS volume limit is 2TB. If you want a single drive to have more than 2TB, you'll have to extend the partitions after they are created/formatted using Disk Manager.

As far as not having a valid partition, amke sure that you set the drives up properly in the Intel Matrix Raid BIOS, and then in the XP installer, you'll have to give the installer the RAID driver disk (F6 during install loader), and create the partition, and format it NTFS.

Well, I may be wrong, But isnt that 2TB limit is for windows partitions containing the MBR. I am not usin this partition as a boot partition. And theoritically with default cluster size (4kB), NTFS shud go upto abt 16TB. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTFS)

And XP installation detects the drives even the RAID one. I have slipstreamed the drivers. (dont have a floppy). But the problem is that it doesnot format the disk properly.
 
Thank you everybody for helping me out on this matter. I actually called Intel in the morning and they confirmed what you guys said (I am reading the replies just now). The ESB IO controller supports only up to 2TB. I am gonna use a 3rd party RAID controller for the customer.
I was looking at Rocket RAID cards (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...nc.-_-16115026). but would love to know your opinions too..!!

And as for the issue with XP installatiton, I think it is a Bad HDD. Im runnig PC-doc and we'll c overnight.
