RAID or extra memory?

Doom 3 is coming out and I have some cash to spend. Should I get a RAID setup, already have a SATA WD 160 GB running, or two more sticks of 256 PC3200 = 1GB? I already have a 9800 pro and P4 2.6 GHz running.

Memory for sure. The word is still out on RAID, but general consesus is that it's useless in common applications.

For what??? :D Well, I just don't play as much games lately. Currently, the only game that sucks up all of my memory is Far Cry. I almost finish it though. So, I will have some time playing Doom3. After that, what would I do with the memory? I use PhotoShop a lot and I don't remember using up a GB memory with it. With RAID, I would think that loading time would be shortened no matter what applications I will be using.

If this helps I sold my 2 WD RAPTORS 36 gig I had in RAID 0 to get one WD RAPTOR 74 Gbyte. anandtechs benchies was the final blow for RAID in my book.

Thanks. Yeah, will get some RAM later.

...........RAM! :D I have 4x256mb PC4000 sticks ( single sided arangement ) I heard this was better than 2x512mb, so try to get some SS sticks.

Links to Benchies?
:D

RAM ... your load times will be much faster with the ram also. And you will want atleast 1gb for Doom 3.

RAID later.

I'd get more ram. It'll help w/ Photoshop if you ever work on any large images, and current & upcoming games already want 1GB.
Actually if Doom 3 pushes my mem usage over 900MB or so w/ nothing else running I think I'm going to go ahead and get another gig or at least another 512 for a total of 1.5 or 2GB.

No way man - get the RAID.

LOL :D
Just kidding. I've seen the articles @ Overclockers.com & Anandtech when they came out. RAID = no go.

RAM RAM RAM RAM RAM, and maybe some RAM.

Heh, as soon as I saw the title of this thread my immediate answer was RAM. It is the much better choice.
I'm glad that everyone else agrees, so I'm not even going to bother explaining why. :)
