is it possible to run raid on another computer or the same but with ide as boot?
reason comes from, is that my windows died and reinstall dont help, but i would like to still use the information, or atleast pull it off the hdd for now. if i set a pata as boot drive (however thats done....?) will the mobo still see the sata raid drives as one (hardware supported) and i wont get the "drive unreadable" restart thing... sorry if im not clear about this.. but i will tell more if someone gets the closest idea to what im trying to ask.

Yes, it's just a quick change of the boot order in the BIOS. Make sure ATA or ATA100/133/whatever is listed before ATARAID, SCSI, or whatever your board IDs the RAID controller as.

Perhaps. I'm going to guess you're dealing with a RAID0 stripeset here, probably run off a built-in controller. If so, the new board will be able to read it provided it has the same exact controller on it, usually requiring the same controller BIOS revision, and almost always requiring that you set up the stripeset info in the controller BIOS identically to how it was on the old machine. The first condition must be met, the second is only the case with certain controllers and BIOS revisions, and the third can sometimes be worked around with controller manufacturer utilities.

i attempted to get the raid going and after reinstall of windows and revision... bios didnt ask for raid setup option... it skips it, and auto calls it m/s slot 3, then a disk read error, after installing windows...

i got agrivated and sent in mobo RMA...

what went wrong? did anything did?
