First post, hope I dont step on anyones toes!

I need help with my new system. I have a couple of Intel 240GB 520 SSD's and wish to Raid 0 them for gaming.

After purchasing and installing them under Raid 0 on my Z77X-UD5H I was having issues with the raid failing. I could set them up under RAID BIOS, they would work fine for a couple of boots then disappear from Windows. Upon rentering Raid Bios, they would show as Failed. Tried this a couple of times, then gave up. Having said that I have 2 OCZ Vertex 2 60Gb under Raid 0, and to date have had no issue with them.

The more I read regarding Intel SSD on this forum, I realise that I should have gone Samsung or OCZ. Not to mention the Z77X-UD5H Raid is in fact a software Raid. And here I was thinking going Intel / Intel I wouldn't have an issue. :mad:

Moving forward, is it worth picking up a PCI-E Raid card to control the SSD's in Raid 0? Keeping in mind I run 2 x SLI video cards means I can only use the last 4 x PCI-E slot. Will that be fast enough?

Any advice, no matter how brutal will be greatly appreciated!
 
It is always possible you just have a bad SSD. That said, since you mentioned OCZ they are the company I would stay FAR away from. Samsung and Intel are the two companies I DO recommend. Corsair and more recently Plextor also have a great number of fans here.
If you want to just run these are a general OS boot volume, you would probably benchmark better with a PCIe RAID card (Like an LSI with FastPath for $400-ish) but in general use would probably offer you no tangible benefit over running the SSD's on SATA3 off your UD5H.
