Raid having problems with WinXP, any help appreciated!

Ok, so i decided to try and raid-0 my 40gb Maxtors. I got into my raid controller right after bios, and created my raid0. I got into windowsxp installation, and from there I put in the raid driver. Windows detected one 80gb hard drive for the installation to go in, so i installed it, and everything was good.

So it reboot and right where it should load windows, it goes back in to windows installation. So i go to the select partition and it says windows already exists.

I dont understand.... the raid is all good except it goes back into windows installation everytime. The HDs are not corrupt because I was using them before I decided to raid them.

I connected a HD1 to my UIDE1 slot, and another HD2 to my UIDE2 slot. The UIDEs are IDE slots for my raid.

Im using an EPOX 4BDA2+ mobo with HighPoint 372 raid.

Any help/advice is appreciated. Thx in advance
 
BIOS > Boot Order > SCSI (should do it I think, its booting to the CDR)
also many RAID BIOS have an option to mke the array bootable, that may be required as well. (It varies)
 
Sorry if this sounds trivial but after you loaded the raid drivers and loaded windows onto the 80 gig ,,you rebooted..

Did you take the install disk out???:D
 
Hmm... I didnt reboot, it reboots by itself after windows is done copying the files to the HD.

I tried making the array bootable but it doesnt seem to do anything.

I already tried to change the boot sequence, thats the problem.

I think ive done everything to make it boot into windows but it doesnt seem to be working.
 
it sounds like you did it right..

and yes the system will reboot after the windows installation.

So after it rebooted. you then went back into the BIOS and changed the boot order to boot from the array first C: drive??

then what no boot no nothing
 
yea, i changed the boot order from raid>SCSI>CD>HD to SCSI>Raid>HD>CD and still goes back into windows setup every time. Dont know whats wrong.
 
this is a Onboard RAID controller?
does it have a BIOS? is that set to so the array is bootable?
when you installed was the array the only drive attached?, your sure the ntldr is on there (its the system partition)

are we talking PATA or SATA HDDs?
 
yea, onboard raid. It has a bios, and the array is set to bootable. When i installed, the 2 HDs and both CDRW and DVD drives are attached.

I get an error when I set the array to boot. It says NTDLR is not found. Press any key to reboot.

Both drives are ATA 133 maxtors.
 
if there wasnt another HDD attached at the time the OS was installed to the array, then the ntldr is there but the startup cant locate it,
that is the bootstrap NT Loader (ntldr) so go back into the BIOS and enable boot to other devices (if that isnt already done)
then look for an option in the BIOS like Bus Manager and enable it
(it might be called something else)
try the PNP\PCI submenu?
try all the menus

if there was another HDD attached its possible the ntldr could have been installed to it

I think the problem is that the boot isnt detecting both HD's and says NTLDR is missing. This could be due to my raid controller and bootup giving miscommunication. Only possible thing i can think of wth my limited knowledge.
