Hi i just joined HardOcp ;) and um... yes i'm a newbie :)

I was wondering whether a raid controller or a motherboard with raid would be better for my home desktop computer for gaming?

Here are the specs i'm talking about

-Amd Fx-53 socket 940
-Asus SK8N

-1 x 36.6gb Western Digital Raptor 10,000 rpm sata hdd
-2 x 200gb Western Digital Caviar 7,200 rpm sata hdd

*Basicly 3 hard drives

I'm currently using a highpoint rocket raid controller not sure which model but it kinda looks exactly like this

http://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/review-245-1.htm

In a review i read about Msi K8N Neo2 Platinum because i was thinking about upgrading to the socket 939, it said

nForce3 Ultra supports additional features such as a true native Gigabit Ethernet solution with built-in Firewall support for added security, and NVIDIA’s more flexible IDE implementation, which includes cross-controller and spare drive support. Cross-controller support allows you to build a RAID array consisting of both parallel ATA and Serial ATA hard drives, while spare drive adds added backup capability in the case of RAID 1 or RAID 0+1 arrays.

So does that mean you can setup raid without buying a raid controller ? If so would it be better than buying a raid card or not ?

Also what raid mode would be suitable for my 3 sata hard drives ?? :(

The reason why i'm asking is because i was reading about the high point rocket raid review and it was comparing performance with Intel onboard raid on the motherboard ( hm ... )

Anyway how does this apply to an amd rig
