Hi All,
I have a Asus TS700-E4/RX8 that comes with a DSBF-12/SAS motherboard with an integrated LSI 1068 PCI-X 8-port SAS RAID controller. The motherboard has the option to support a MegaRAID SAS 8300XLP ZCR PCI-X card for better raid support [RAID 0, 1, 1E as compared to RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, and probably more controller memory].
With all of that being said, here is my dilemma. I currently have two WD 500GB Caviar Black [WD5001AALS] and two WD 1TB Caviar Green [WD10EACS] drives. Both sets of drives are setup in a RAID1 configuration, so logically one 500GB mirror and 1TB mirror. Recently my WD 1TB Caviar Green drives have been acting up and are always needing to be re-synced when any large amount of disk activity occurs on those drives. I haven't taken the drives out and tested them with WD's diagnostic utilities yet, but I'm curious if anyone else has had any problems with these drives in a similar configuration? Is the on board RAID controller being work to hard [doubtful]? If so, should I try to get the MegaRAID SAS 8300XLP ZCR PCI-X card upgrade?
I've already ordered two replacement WD 1TB Caviar Black [WD1001FALS] drives since I've not had any problems with my other two WD 500GB Caviar Black drives. I have a strong feeling that there is something wrong with at least one of these two WD 1TB Caviar Green drives which I'll probably RMA back to WD. I just wanted to get others opinions on my situation...
